The LGBTQ Engaged Buddhist Group is a community of Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgendered and Questioning (or otherwise uniquely self-defined) people exploring the study and practice of Buddhist principles and mindfulness practices for the benefit of the greater LGBTQ community as well as our own spiritual development and healing. Though a service commitment is not required for membership, it is a deep intention of this group that whatever wisdom and compassion are developed in our individual practices be offered in active engaged service to the LGBTQ population.

We offer support in the development of wisdom and compassion in the following ways: An ongoing series of "month-long" workshops. Meeting twice a month we will offer talks on a practice topic and practice together and individually for the month, working with that month's teachings. At each of the two monthly meetings we'll facilitate council style group discussion on how practicing with that months teachings is going. We'll also offer meditation instructions that support the topic when possible. In addition we'll make time to simply connect as human beings about our LGBTQ experience in mindful speech and compassionate listening practices as well as offer periods of vipassana meditation to deepen our wisdom. Though each meeting will reflect on material covered in previous meetings you are more than welcome to attend any part of the process. Consistent participation is strongly encouraged and will result in the most benefit.

Thus our deepest intentions for this group:

·         To make Buddhist teachings and mindfulness practices available to the LGBTQ community.

·         To support the development of wisdom and compassion among LGBTQ practitioners.

·         To encourage and support the utilization of that wisdom and compassion in engaged service to our own community.

·     To acknowledge the need for, and support one another in, healing thru practice, community support, and service.

·         To make the teachings available to LGBTQ pratitioners nationwide/globally by posting talks and operating a forum and eventually, retreats.

·         To have a clear voice and presence in the local and national ATS community as well as in the development of an "American Buddhism" that we are a part of.

This group is appropriate for any level of meditation experience.
