Distill: A Blend of Sitting Meditation & The 5Rhythms® Dance

A Daylong With Matthew Brensilver and Kate Shela

Saturday, October 17, 2015

10:00am – 4:00pm

San Francisco

You are invited to a day of discovery and expression that combines sitting and moving meditation. There is beauty in movement and beauty in stillness. Mindfulness meditation is the practice of becoming intimate with the nature of experience.  Dance represents the full external expression of this inner world. As we move, we find ways of articulating our inner life that feels most authentic and most vital. Through various practices, Matthew and Kate will endeavor to lead you through the back alleys of your being and invite you, with discipline and kindness, to learn whatever it is you need to learn.

You definitely don’t have to be a dancer or an expert meditator to participate. The day is not about being good at something, but is instead an open-hearted exploration of what it’s really like to be alive.

Registration for this workshop is sold out. We hope to offer another opportunity to practice with Matthew and Kate soon!

Cost: $65-108 sliding scale registration. Please note, this is a no dana retreat: all registration fees will directly support the teachers and the center. Monthly supporters at the $100+ level receive 50% off registration ($30-54).
Our center relies on your generosity. Please pay at the highest level you can to support our programs and those who have less. No one turned away for lack of funds. Some scholarships and Work-Study opportunities are available.

About The 5Rhythms®:
Created by Gabrielle Roth, The 5Rhythms is a philosophy, perspective, performance art and a dynamic movement practice rooted in the principle that if you put the psyche in motion it will heal itself. Movement is both the medicine and the metaphor, reaching across all languages and age groups to transform suffering into art, art into awareness and awareness into action.

About the teachers:

Kate Shela is a dynamic shapeshifter and healer, who skillfully and naturally brings  transformational medicine to every dance floor. Known as a catalyst with heart, she drops deep into the belly of listening and draws out the powerful healer in each of us. Kate met Gabrielle Roth in 1992 and is accredited to teach The 5Rhythms Waves and Heartbeat Map. She is a shamanic healer and teacher within The Path of Pollen. She lives in California and has taught at Against the Stream in Los Angeles for four years, as well as internationally. Learn more at  www.kateshela.com

Matthew Brensilver, PhD, served as a Buddhist chaplain at USC for four years and teaches about the intersection of mindfulness and psychotherapy at UCLA’s Mindful Awareness Research Center. Matthew was trained by Noah Levine and teaches at Against the Stream. He is currently in the Spirit Rock/IMS teacher training program and regularly teaches at Spirit Rock and the Insight Retreat Center.
