Buddhist Meditation Bootcamp

Class Series with Bill Duane and Devon Rath

Tuesdays, January 5th, 2016 through February 9th

6:30pm – 8pm

2701 Folsom Street, San Francisco, CA

Ever had the intention to start a meditation practice only to practice binge watching Netflix instead? Ever wanted to get an overview of how Buddhist teachings hang together? Just what is Buddhism, exactly?

Join Bill Duane and Devon Rath for a special class to jump-start your meditation practice. Over six weeks, we will unpack key concepts of the Dharma, geared towards practical application in a fun, low-key environment. In a small group setting, you will have the opportunity to explore the foundations of Buddhist practice through meditation, discussion, Dharma talks, group exercises, and some homework in between classes.

This class is ideal for people looking to investigate, establish, or reestablish a practice founded on Buddhist teachings, and is open to all levels of meditation experience. Please note that this is not a drop-in class, but is intended to be taken in its entirety. Space is limited and may sell out quickly.

Cost: $100 registration fee, plus dana to support the teachers before January 1.
$120 registration plus dana after. Monthly supporters at the $100+ level pay no registration fee.

About the Teachers:

Bill Duane’s practice & teaching sits at the intersection of science and love. He came to practice via a secular workplace mindfulness program. Wanting more depth, he explored the Buddhist path and was somewhat surprised to find a deep connection and a continuing path of freedom from stress and unhappiness. After a career change from engineering to dharma three years ago, he now runs the well-being learning programs at Google, exploring well-being in the contexts of individual resilience, team norms and organizational values. He is a Search Inside Yourself “master teacher,” the vice-chairman of Veteran’s PATH and advisor to several other nonprofits. He has new kittens and will not hesitate to show you pictures of them.

Devon Rath has been a dharma practitioner for 15 years. Currently she works part time for Mindful Schools as a guiding teacher for their online classes and full time as a Social Worker in a public high school in San Francisco. There, she teaches mindfulness to both students and staff. She is passionate about bringing these practices into SF public schools. In her summers, she teaches with iBme, on teen mindfulness retreats and assists the Young Adult retreat at Spirit Rock. She is sober and finds the dharma deeply supportive on the path of recovery. Devonidentifies as a queer woman and is heartfelt about the power of practice to increase peace and freedom for all.
