One of our main intentions in founding Against the Stream was to foster a sense of community and to provide a gathering place for like-minded individuals to meditate, to learn, to share and to have fun. The three jewels of Buddhism are Buddha, Dharma and Sangha. We have physical locations for our Sangha to grow, and we hope this website will provide a focus for a larger international community. We will increase our library of talks and look forward to streaming dharma talks and retreats. This community will be what we all put into it and we are happy to have you join us.
Part of our community building includes affinity groups. Affinity groups are groups of people who identify with each other in some way (people of color, white, LGBTQ, women, and so on). These groups are not intended to be divisive but to provide a safe space for building trust and intimacy. This allows members to share openly and deeply about their own particular experiences. We believe that these groups are vital to the health of the sangha and support them wholeheartedly. We have several at ATS and we invite you to investigate them for yourself.
If you have any ideas of what you would like to see at your community, please write [email protected].
