Buddhist Support to Assist Release of Trauma

A Daylong Retreat with Amma Thanasanti.
The Buddhist tradition oﬀers many tools and perspectives that can help you to release trauma. Our focus will be on Buddhist practices and perspectives and are designed to augment any other supports you have to release trauma. We will focus on the following:
Aﬃrming integrity as a container
Understanding the role of community
Bringing loving kindness to your experience
Feeling relaxation in your body
Big mind and pervasive awareness/love
We will practice wise use of Buddhist teachings in relationship to trauma. For example, it is common to be asked to sustain attention on unpleasant sensations and to sit still for long periods of time. This approach may be activating if you are dealing with trauma. We will explore supports found in traditional Buddhist teachings that will bring conﬁdence, ease and well being and oﬀer discernment in addressing body and mind activation.
The Buddha taught that the the key to happiness is release. This release is experienced in the body, heart and mind. We know it when we are not driven by a relentless insistence that life in this moment be other than it is.

Amma Ṭhanasanti is the founder and Spiritual Director of Awakening Truth. She is a California born spiritual teacher dedicated to serving all beings. As a former Buddhist nun of 26 years, she combines the precision and rigor of the Ajahn Chah Forest Tradition and a passion for wholeness.
