Working with Shame Skillfully
A Five Week Series with JoAnna Harper and Michelle Seely
CLASS POSTPONED UNTIL Jan. 2018
This five week class series will explore the experience of shame, the causes, and how to work skillfully and mindfully with it. Through the practice of seeing clearly and working to increase our awareness of and ability to articulate the chain of somatic and conditioned events we can increase our resilience and eventually free ourselves from habitual patterns. We will create a safe space together to explore and strengthen wise vulnerability.
This series will incorporate Brene Brown’s work, meditation, discussions, and take home weekly practices.
This class is for all levels of meditation experience.
Class dates: March 3, 10, 17, 24, 31
Cost: $20 per evening or $80 if paid in advance. There will be an opportunity to offer dana to the teacher at each class (teachers receive a portion of the reg fee and are supported by dana). Please pay at the highest level you can afford to support our programs and those who have less. Some scholarships and work-study are available. No one will be turned away for lack of funds.
JoAnna Harper – Guiding Teacher Los Angeles, has been exploring and practicing multiple traditions since 1999. In 2005, her focus landed on Buddhism and Vipassana meditation, which is the premise for most of her current teaching. She teaches; adult and teen weeklong silent retreats, day longs and weekly classes, and works with at risk youth and non at risk youth in institutional and school settings. Helping communities and individuals that don’t typically have access to the traditional dharma settings and building multicultural community is top on her list of priorities. She is an empowered teacher in the Spirit Rock, IMS lineage. She is the grateful mother of CJ and Harris – her main inspirations.
Michelle Seely is a licensed psychotherapist with a private practice in Burbank. Michelle began meditating in 2000, and has been studying the dharma and Buddhist psychology ever since.
